Night Bass

Night Bass is the Los Angeles bass music label and party AC Slater started, and the label tells its own story twice, in its own words. the Bandcamp bio reads: "Driven by a passion for the best in Bass music, circling around UK Garage, Bassline, Grime, House and everything good in-between, in 2014 #NightBass boss AC Slater made it his mission to expose North America to these strongly under-represented genres and in doing so, he's established club and record label Night Bass as an internationally renowned institution for ground breaking dance music." the YouTube channel description keeps it shorter: "Night Bass Records was founded by AC Slater in 2015 to provide a home for the best in bass music, circling around UK Garage, Bassline, Grime, House and everything good in-between." so the year comes two ways, and both are the label's own. the Bandcamp and SoundCloud bios date the Night Bass mission to 2014, the YouTube channel says the label was founded in 2015, and Mixmag lines the two up: on 30 May 2015 it reported the record label's launch with the parties already a year old, "After a year of Night Bass events" the label "kicks things off with 'This is Night Bass Vol 1'", released 30 June 2015. read together, the party started in 2014 and the label in 2015, and we print both rather than pick one. the name comes in two forms as well. the catalogue-facing name is "Night Bass Records", which is what Beatport, the label's own site and its YouTube channel print, while SoundCloud, Bandcamp, Instagram and Discogs display "Night Bass". the base is Los Angeles. the Discogs profile reads "Location: Los Angeles, United States." and the label's Bandcamp page gives Los Angeles too. Discogs lists no parent and no sub-labels.

the label calls its lane bass music, so that is the tag, and both bios draw the same circle around it: UK garage, bassline, grime, house and everything good in between. since 16 June 2023 Night Bass is a joint venture with Create Music Group. the company's own announcement: "DJ/producer AC Slater today announced that he will bring his iconic record label Night Bass to Create Music Group, one of the world's leading data-driven media and technology companies focused on empowering artists and creators." AC Slater's line in the same post: "Moving Night Bass over to my longtime friends at Create Music Group will give my artists and me even more resources and technology to expand our audiences all over the world." his album "Together" came out the same day, 16 June 2023. in November 2023 he posted that 2024 marks ten years of Night Bass and that the label has released over 800 songs. Discogs lists 131 releases, so the 800 counts tracks, not releases. the party side is the older half of the brand, a year ahead of the label per Mixmag, and the label's Facebook handle is nightbassevents. one brand, two sides. any "Night Bass" on an unrelated act is not this label.

the series is "This Is Night Bass", a numbered various-artists compilation on the label, Vol. 1 in 2015 and running to at least Vol. 13, the volume embedded below as a Spotify album, exact release date not confirmed. a "This is Night Bass: Vol. 14" (2022) also sits among Hans Glader's credits, so the count runs past the volume we embed. Vol. 10, which EDM.com covered, is a set on the label's own SoundCloud. "Night Bass Remixed" ran Vol. 1 to 3 on Beatport as a second compilation series. the label's 100th release was a compilation too, which Billboard covered under the headline "AC Slater Shares 10 Essential Night Bass Records, 100th Release Compilation". the newest catalogued release we found on Beatport is AC Slater & Jamakabi "Connect" (NBD236BP, 14 February 2025).

a few notes on the names. two are here as remixers, CID and Sammy Virji, both on AC Slater's "Hi8 Remixed" (2020).
