Ninja Tune

Ninja Tune was founded in london in 1990 by Matt Black and Jonathan More, the duo behind Coldcut, as an outlet for their own productions and like-minded left-field artists. Black on why: "we saw Ninja Tune as our technicolored escape pod from the sausage machine swamp of the music business." three and a half decades on it's grown into a group with its own sub-labels, Big Dada (hip-hop and grime), Counter Records, Technicolour, plus partner imprints Brainfeeder (Flying Lotus) and Foreign Family Collective (ODESZA).

in march 2026 Concord acquired Ninja Tune outright, including its publishing arm Just Isn't Music, for an undisclosed sum, a full acquisition, not a minority stake, with the existing UK/US team staying on. Coldcut, on the deal: "partnering with Concord ensures the culture and ethos that make the label so unique remain, whilst bringing mad Ninja energy and innovation forward." as of this writing, more than six months after that acquisition closed, Ninja Tune's own about page still reads "still 100% independent." we're printing that contradiction rather than smoothing it over, since it's the label's own current copy sitting next to a real, sourced ownership change.
