Nervous Records is a New York house label founded in 1991 by Michael "Mike" Weiss, with his father Sam Weiss as co-founder. the name comes from a NYC radio DJ's nickname for him, "there was a radio guy... who I would go see to try and get my records played. I was always very pushy so he started calling me Captain Nervous," Weiss told i-D, though Discogs and Beatportal both spell the DJ's own name "Chuck Chillout" where Weiss's quote reads "Chuck Chillin'," likely the same person, a discrepancy we're printing rather than smoothing over. the label built its name on East Coast house alongside a real, parallel run in mid-90s hip-hop, Black Moon's "Enta Da Stage" and Smif-N-Wessun's "Dah Shinin'" both shipped on Nervous.
this name collides. a completely unrelated UK label, also called Nervous Records, was founded in 1979 by Roy Williams and became a leading voice of the British rockabilly and psychobilly scene, its roster includes The Polecats, The Sharks and Frenzy. Wikipedia carries the two as separate articles with no disambiguation hatnote pointing from one to the other, and Discogs separates them only by tacking "(2)" onto the UK entity's name, an easy pair to mix up if you're not citing specific catalog numbers. every fact below this paragraph has been checked against the NYC house label's own catalog, address and social handles, not the UK one's.
we were careful with two names in particular. Kenny "Dope" Gonzalez has a genuine catalogued release, "The Nervous Track" as Masters At Work Present Nuyorican Soul (1993). Todd Terry also has one, "I Want To Know (Quiero Saber) (The Remix)" as Todd Terry Presents The Latin Kings (NER 20019, 1992), but his better-known "Ready For A New Day" (1998) actually shipped on Manifesto Records under license, Nervous only held the underlying copyright, so we're not counting that one as a Nervous release.
30 artists we track have released on it, listed below. Weiss, on what the label is for: "my feeling is that the label should always represent this city." "the best music comes from the streets, whether it's hip-hop, disco or house." it's still actively releasing, 3 to 5 titles weekly since 2024 per its own recent catalog pace, and its cartoon logo, designed by art director Marc Cozza, updated in 2004 with graffiti art by Blake Lethem, is one of dance music's more recognizable pieces of branding.
"my feeling is that the label should always represent this city."

no spotify label playlist confirmed, checked 21 september 2026, only a curator profile. a second, unofficial soundcloud account with the un-hyphenated handle also exists and posts nothing, this is the label's real, official account.
