Cuttin' Headz

Cuttin' Headz is the New York label and party brand of The Martinez Brothers, Chris and Steve Martinez, the latter also written Stevie. the label site puts it in one line: "Home of The Martinez Brothers record label & events brand Cuttin' Headz." the brothers' own site calls them the co-owners, and Discogs files it as "The Martinez Brothers' label." the name is printed the same way, apostrophe and all, on the label site, Beatport, Bandcamp, Resident Advisor and Deezer's label field. Bandcamp gives the location as "New York, New York" and Resident Advisor files the label under the US. the start date is told two ways and we print both. Resident Advisor announced the label as news on 21 October 2014, and the first announced release, The Martinez Brothers "Tree Town EP" (CH002), followed in November 2014. the catalogue disagrees. CH000, "The Hat Trick" by The Martinez Brothers & Mass Prod, is dated September 2013 on Discogs and went up on the label's own SoundCloud on 2 September 2013, so the 2014 press treated as new a label whose catalogue number zero was already a year old. we don't pick a side.

the label's own line on its sound comes from its Bandcamp bio, spelled as written there, apostrophe missing: "Cuttin Headz the label formed by Chris and Steve Martinez will offer a diverse range of sounds from fresh stripped down techno tools to one of their first loves hiphop." that is a statement of intent, not a genre list, so we don't tag one. Resident Advisor reviewed the "Tree Town EP" on 3 December 2014 and was lukewarm about it. the notable releases mostly carry the brothers' own name. The Martinez Brothers "Remixed" (CH015, 2017) has remixes including Peggy Gou, and Redeye lists Mathew Jonson, DJ Deeon and Maayan Nidam on it as well. Louie Vega & The Martinez Brothers with Marc E. Bassy "Let It Go" (DFTD604, 26 February 2021) is a joint release, Discogs lists three labels on it, Defected, Cuttin' Headz and Vega Records, all under the same catalogue number, with remixes by Honey Dijon and Dom Dolla. The Martinez Brothers & Gordo featuring Rema "Rizzla" came on 3 June 2022 with the catalogue number CHX001. there are also "Cuttin' Headz presents..." various-artists releases on Beatport, "Boogeyman" and "Episode One" among them. the newest release we found is Black Fancy "Mama Gave Me Rhythm EP" (CH060, 27 March 2026), timed to the label's Ultra stage and described by The Miami Hurricane as the label's first artist-development signing.

the podcast is Cuttin' Headz Podcasts, a SoundCloud set on the label's own account, and the latest episode we can see is #005 with Louie Vega, uploaded 20 March 2018, so it looks dormant since then. the party side is more current. "The Martinez Brothers present Cuttin' Headz" ran at Drumsheds, London on 11 October 2024, and Ultra Music Festival Miami had a Cuttin' Headz stage from 27 to 29 March 2026, curated by The Martinez Brothers. a few things share the name without being the label. "Cuttin' Headz Exposé" (2014) is a Martinez Brothers mix CD that Mixmag issued with its January 2015 issue (catalogue MIXMAG 01/15), not a label release, and the 1997 act Cutting Headz and the Discogs artist Cuttin Heads are unrelated.

Peggy Gou and Dom Dolla are here as remixers, Peggy Gou on "Remixed" (CH015) and Dom Dolla on "Let It Go" (DFTD604, 2021), the joint Defected, Cuttin' Headz and Vega Records release. Gordo is in on "Rizzla" (CHX001, 2022), a collaboration with the label heads, and the Discogs credit "Gordo (34)" is Diamante Blackmon, also Carnage, the same Gordo we track. the rest are on their own releases: Jansons "Skylines" and "Twisty" (both 2022), Jean Pierre "What You Think? EP" (2017) and "Star Struck" (2023), Joey London Style "Soul Sucker" (2025), Kidoo "Hotwing" (2023), Mason Collective "My Love" (October 2025), Shermanology "Bam Bam" (2021) and Toman "Madrugada" (CH031, 2021) and "Footprints" (2021), with The Martinez Brothers on the label's own catalogue from CH000. 11 artists we track have released on it, a confirmed floor from a catalogue sweep, not the full roster: Dom Dolla, Gordo, Jansons, Jean Pierre, Joey London Style, Kidoo, Mason Collective, Peggy Gou, Shermanology, The Martinez Brothers, Toman
