ABRACADABRA

ABRACADABRA grew out of the ABRACADABRA party series and became a label in 2018, founded by BLOND:ISH, at that point still the duo of Vivie-Ann Bakos and Anstascia, who split as an act in january 2019. the earliest catalogue release we can confirm is BLOND:ISH's own "Circus" (ABRA001, 7 september 2018). per an EDM Identity piece from march 2021, the label is run today by Vivie-Ann Bakos and Liana Hillison, described in that piece as business and life partners, not by Bakos alone. Bakos told EDM Identity, "ABRACADABRA was created out of our shared love for music, art, wellness, and eco-activism, both online and IRL."

the label's own SoundCloud bio doesn't give an origin story for the parties, we checked it directly and it reads only as brand copy: "a carnival for your spirit... let's evolve together." a Spanish-language DJ Mag Latam piece places the party series' start in Tulum, Mexico in "early 2017," a claim we couldn't independently confirm, so we're flagging it rather than asserting it. the label's own site describes its sound as melodic house, afro house and organic house, Resident Advisor tags it indie dance, afro-house and tech house. sustainability is a real, specific thread here, not just marketing copy, BLOND:ISH released a biodegradable-vinyl "#PlasticFreeParty" record on the label in april 2023, tied to her Bye Bye Plastic Foundation nonprofit, though we're not stretching that one release into a claim about the whole catalogue.

the label runs a recurring "Troublemakers" various-artists compilation tied to a Pacha Ibiza residency and ADE, and launched a "Human Nature" livestream and episode format on SoundCloud and Twitch in 2021. two Bandcamp subdomains, abracadabrarecords.bandcamp.com and abracadabra.bandcamp.com, both show overlapping catalogue and we couldn't confirm which one is canonical, so neither is linked here. it's also worth separating from BLOND:ISH's own sister label ABRA X, launched september 2023 with a techier, trackier sound, which shares some of the same hosting and a similar catalogue-number prefix, easy to mix up the two. 8 artists we track have released on it, a confirmed floor, not a full sweep: Adam Ten, Broken Hill, Calussa, Kimonos, Luch, Maxi Meraki, Peace Control, Yamagucci
