Gudu Records is the Berlin label Peggy Gou founded in 2019. the label's own bio, one line repeated on its Bandcamp, SoundCloud, YouTube and website, says Peggy Gou founded it in 2019, Resident Advisor's bio reads "Record label from Peggy Gou", and the Discogs profile reads "Record label founded by Peggy Gou and based in Berlin, Germany." Bandcamp's location line reads "Berlin, Germany." too, and Resident Advisor files it under Germany. she first talked about the label in i-D in August 2018, and the first release landed on 22 March 2019, her own "Starry Night", a single from the Moment EP, GUDU001. Beatportal, which made Gudu its label of the month in May 2023, wrote of that single that "The track was the first ever Beatport number 1 hit by an Asian artist". the name prints as "Gudu Records" everywhere the label puts it, Bandcamp, the website, Beatport, Resident Advisor, Discogs and the label field on 107 albums on Deezer, and the catalogue numbers run GUDU001 onward. as for the word itself, i-D reported that "Gudu" means shoes in Korean and is also a play on "Gou do", or in her words "Peggy Gou does."

why a label of her own is on the record. her breakout "It Makes You Forget" came out on Ninja Tune, and she told Beatportal, in that same piece, "I didn't want to share 50 per cent of the revenue." back in 2018 she told i-D the plan was to support Asian artists and give them the chance to play shows outside their home country, and that any genre was welcome, which is where the quote below comes from. the label's own bio calls it "Global dance music" and says Peggy Gou founded it in 2019, so that is the tag we use. Discogs lists three strands as sub-labels: Club Gudu, Gudu & Friends and GuduMix. Club Gudu is the club EP strand, which began in March 2024 with Dukwa "Take Me Away", per Electronic Groove. Gudu & Friends is the various-artists compilation, Vol. 1 in May 2023, which Resident Advisor reported, and Vol. 2 on 2 May 2024. GuduMix is the numbered mix series on the label's own SoundCloud, and it keeps a steady pace: 076 by Rae Sada on 14 July 2026, 077 by Camille Doe on 11 August and 078 by sooyeon on 25 August, so roughly one every two to four weeks. on the release side, Peggy Gou's "I Go" (2021) was ranked 17th in Pitchfork's best songs of 2021, and her "Find The Way" followed in 2024.
