Tale Of Us, the Italian duo of Carmine Conte and Matteo Milleri, started Afterlife in 2016 as a party series and a record label at the same time. Resident Advisor reported the label launching on 24 June 2016 with the compilation "Realm Of Consciousness", Wikipedia puts the label's start in July, and the two dates sit unresolved. where the parties began is also told two ways. the RA-hosted Tale Of Us bio says the brand launched mid-June 2016 at Poble Espanyol in Barcelona, while DJ Mag and Wikipedia tie the launch to the 13-week Thursday residency at Space Ibiza that same summer. the label is based in Berlin, per its Discogs and Bandcamp profiles. the name drifts a little across platforms: older releases carry "Afterlife Recordings" on the copyright line and that is still the Bandcamp and Spotify account name, Beatport calls its page "Afterlife Records", and the (P) line on 2024 and 2025 releases is plain "Afterlife", which is what RA, Discogs and the label's own site use too.

the label's own tagline, repeated on RA, Bandcamp and SoundCloud, is "an odyssey through the realm of consciousness", and its site describes a platform that grew out of an event series and a record label into something built around "visually sensational installations". at launch, Tale Of Us told RA they would try to keep a balance between dance floor and more experimental material. neither Beatport's label page nor the label's copy names a genre, so we don't tag one, though Ibiza Spotlight in 2026 called Tale Of Us the biggest champions of melodic techno and Beatportal in 2025 wrote of the label's atmospheric and emotive identity. Dancing Astronaut named it Label of the Year for 2022. the catalogue is organised around compilations: "Realm Of Consciousness" ran six parts from 2016 to 2023 (Discogs files it as a sub-label of its own), "Unity" ran three parts from 2020 to 2022, and a new series, "Quantum Echoes Pt. I", arrived in September 2025. there is also Afterlife Voyage, a podcast on SoundCloud that began in November 2016 with a Tale Of Us mix. the latest episode listed on the label's site is 026 by Chris Avantgarde, and we could not confirm whether anything came after it. vinyl goes out through the distributor Muting The Noise, which calls itself the exclusive outlet, though that is the retailer's claim.

in June 2023 Interscope Records took on distribution of all Afterlife releases, catalogue included. Anyma's own albums are a separate case, released as (P) Anyma under licence to Interscope, with "Genesys II" credited to Afterlife/Interscope and "The End Of Genesys" to Interscope alone, even though Discogs still files "Genesys" and "Genesys II" under Afterlife with AL catalogue numbers. Anyma is Milleri and MRAK is Conte, both solo aliases from 2021, and the state of the duo is the messy part. no source has an official split. their last joint show that we can find is Afterlife Tulum in January 2025, the 2025 Afterlife Festivals in Mexico City and Barcelona split curation by day between Anyma and MRAK, Beatportal in May 2025 still described Milleri curating the label with Tale Of Us, and Ibiza Spotlight in March 2026 called the Tale Of Us project on indefinite hiatus. no source states a formal change in who owns or runs the label, so we don't either. the event side looks quiet after 2025: the label's Ibiza page stops at October 2024, Songkick lists no Tulum 2026 edition, and Anyma's 2026 Ibiza residency runs at [UNVRS] under his own ÆDEN banner rather than Afterlife. the newest catalogue number is AL104, Kevin de Vries and Jast's "Born Like That" from October 2025, and we found no 2026 release beyond vinyl represses. that is an observation about output, not a claim that the label has closed.
