Musical Freedom

Musical Freedom is the label Tiësto founded in August 2009. the label's own site says it in one line: "Musical Freedom is a global dance music record label founded by Tiësto, giving both emerging and established artists a platform for releasing their music." Discogs files the first entry, "Musical Freedom (2)", as a "Dutch label set up by DJ Tiësto in August 2009." and the label's SoundCloud bio reads "Founded by Tiësto, MMIX", 2009 in Roman numerals. the name changed once. from October 2014 the label is known as Musical Freedom Records, and Discogs keeps that as its own entry, "Musical Freedom Records", with the profile line "Full name of Dutch DJ Tiësto's own label, as a follow-up to Musical Freedom (2), starting from October 2014." both entries list the parent as Musical Freedom Label Ltd. the platforms split on which name to use: the label's Instagram account reads Musical Freedom Records, Beatport still calls it Musical Freedom, and so do we. where it is based comes in three layers, and we print all three rather than pick one. Discogs calls it a Dutch label. the company behind it, Musical Freedom Label Ltd., is registered in Cyprus, registration HE281150, registered 2 February 2011 and active, per the Cyprus companies registry. and the label is listed as a member of the Tileyard studio community in London. under the same company sit a sibling imprint, AFTR:HRS, and Musical Freedom Publishing, both per Discogs, and neither counts toward the roster here.

distribution has moved around. at launch, per Discogs, worldwide distribution was by [PIAS] except North America, where it was Ultra Records. PM:AM and Universal are credited with Musical Freedom on "Wasted" (2014) and "Jackie Chan" (2018) per their Wikipedia articles, Beatport keeps separate label pages tagged for [PIAS], Sony and Fontana North, and the 2020 compilation "Musical Freedom Unlimited" came out via Spinnin' Records. the big records are mostly the founder's. Tiësto "Kaleidoscope" (6 October 2009) came out on Musical Freedom with [PIAS] and Ultra and went top 20 in the UK and 59 on the Billboard 200. Tiësto featuring Matthew Koma "Wasted" (25 April 2014) hit number 3 on the UK singles chart and number 1 on the UK dance chart. Tiësto & Dzeko featuring Preme & Post Malone "Jackie Chan" (18 May 2018) went to number 5 in the UK and 52 on the Billboard Hot 100. "Musical Freedom Unlimited" (29 May 2020) is what EDM.com called the label's first-ever compilation album. the label is still releasing in 2026, Beatport lists a Tom Carroll release, "Empty Sky", on pre-order at the time of writing. on the sound, the label names no genre and Tiësto says it is not one genre, so we don't tag one. his own line on it, from EDM.com in 2020, is the quote below. in September 2026 weraveyou.com reported him saying in a beFesti interview that "Musical Freedom has some kind of reputation that it's just EDM, which it's not." the same report had him considering renaming the label Prismatic Records. that is a reported remark, not a done rename.

the radio show is MF Radio, the label's own weekly show, kept as a set on its SoundCloud account. the first episode, "Musical Freedom Radio 001: Tiësto", sits on the label account, and its description calls it the inaugural episode, "an exclusive mix from label head, Tiësto." a label upload description says the show airs on SiriusXM channel 51 on Fridays. it is still running, the latest edition we found is from September 2026. Club Life and Prismatic Radioshow are Tiësto's own shows rather than the label's, so they are not embedded here. a few things share the name without being the label: "Musical Freedom, LLC" and the Resident Advisor labels "Be Free" and "Music Is Freedom" are unrelated.

a few notes on the names. artists whose only credit is a track on one of Tiësto's Club Life DJ-mix compilations are left off the list. Infected Mushroom rests on a track from the 2012 charity compilation "Dance (Red) Save Lives (Presented By Tiësto)". ODESZA is here as the original artist on the Dzeko & Torres remix single of "All We Need" (MF118, 2015). Tiësto is the founder and runs across the catalogue from "Kaleidoscope" (2009) on. the rest are on their own releases, from KRYDER's "K2" (MF005, 2011) and Nico de Andrea's "I Found You" (MF023, 2012), through CID "No!"
