Get Physical Music launched in Berlin in 2002, grown out of a friendship circle in the Berlin/Frankfurt house scene. three acts founded it: M.A.N.D.Y. (Patrick Bodmer & Philipp Jung), DJ T. (Thomas Koch), and Booka Shade (Walter Merziger & Arno Kammermeier), five people by the count nearly every 2026 trade obituary gives. both English and German Wikipedia, plus the German outlet groove.de, name a sixth co-founder inside the Booka Shade grouping, producer Peter Hayo, whose exact role we could not independently confirm beyond "producer and studio operator." we're printing the five-person version as the well-corroborated core and flagging the sixth as a real but less-verified claim rather than picking one.
Philipp Jung, one of the two founders of M.A.N.D.Y. and a co-founder of the label, died in may 2026 at his home in Costa Rica, aged 55. the cause has not been disclosed by any outlet we checked, and none of the trade press we read speculated on one. he had stepped back from touring with M.A.N.D.Y. around 2018 to focus on label work, and had gone on to found two further imprints, Kindisch and Metaphysical. shortly before he died he curated "Rewind Forward, Vol. 1," an anniversary compilation marking the label's history, and had posted in april 2026: "after 25 years of doing this, I honestly feel like I've only scratched the surface."
the label is no longer run by its 2002 founders day to day. Roland Leesker joined as a partner around 2010 and now serves as Co-Owner and Creative Director, its current operational lead. "we simply do what we like. just follow your heart," Leesker told DJ Mag, "we are not looking for any trends or hype anymore. our focus is on individual artists." the label's own domain, getphysicalmusic.com, now redirects straight to its bandcamp page rather than hosting a standalone site, a consolidation we confirmed by checking both the root domain and its old about-us path.
