Anjunadeep

Anjunadeep is the London label Above & Beyond and their manager James Grant founded in 2005. the label's own About page says it plainly: "Anjunadeep is an independent record label based in London. Founded in 2005 by Above & Beyond, and their manager James Grant, Anjunadeep began life as an outlet for records from the deeper, more progressive end of Above & Beyond's club sets. Today, the label is one of dance music's most respected imprints." Resident Advisor files it under the United Kingdom, established 2005, and Discogs agrees on the year. the catalogue tells it a little differently. the earliest release Discogs has is "Anjunadeep EP 001" (ANJDEEP-001), from 20 October 2008, three years after the founding the label gives itself, so the label dates itself to 2005 and its Discogs catalogue starts in 2008, and we print both. the name is "Anjunadeep" everywhere, its own site, Beatport, Bandcamp, SoundCloud, Resident Advisor and Discogs, one spelling, no drift. Discogs lists the parent as Involved Productions, and keeps a few sub-label entries below it, among them Anjunadeep (2), used for the label's mix compilations, Anjunadeep Explorations and Anjunadeep Archive Series. the sister label is Anjunabeats, which the About page and the label's own footer link as a separate thing, and it is not this page.

the sound gets described three ways by three properties the label controls, and none of them is wrong. Discogs says deep and progressive house. the About page says "With over 600 releases spanning melodic house, electronic, ambient and techno, the diversity and integrity of the label's sound has earned Anjunadeep a fiercely loyal following around the globe." the Bandcamp bio reads "the deeper side of the Anjuna label family, Anjunadeep focuses on the finest deep melodic house and emotive electronica." we tag it with the About page's four words. that "over 600 releases" figure is the label's own and the same page says "At 17 years old, Anjunadeep has evolved a great deal since its inception", so it reads as written in 2022. the About page also says "Anjunadeep has introduced the world to artists like Lane 8, Yotto and Dusky, and released albums from Tinlicker, Ben Böhmer, Eli & Fur, Moon Boots, Qrion and many more." Billboard, in a February 2019 feature timed to "Anjunadeep 11", went further: "The label is a hothouse for talent, with the likes of Lane 8, Luttrell, Yotto and many more effectively launching their careers through Anjunadeep." James Grant's line on what holds it all together, from that same piece, is the quote below. on the charts, "Anjunadeep 14" went to number one on the UK Dance Albums Chart in the week of 27 April 2023. the label also throws parties. the About page says it "hosts regular showcases around the world, including its own destination festival in Albania, and has sold out premiere venues including London's Printworks, and New York's Brooklyn Mirage." the festival is Anjunadeep Explorations, and there is Anjunadeep Open Air too, events rather than the series.

the series is The Anjunadeep Edition, the label's weekly mix show, published on its own SoundCloud and YouTube. EDM.com, writing on 16 May 2024, put the debut on 16 May 2014 and called it "a weekly mix showcase hosted on their imprint's YouTube and SoundCloud channels", with Above & Beyond hosting the 500th episode ten years later. the latest episode we saw is "The Anjunadeep Edition 532 with Daniel Curpen". the SoundCloud set embedded below is the one the label keeps for episodes 1 to 499.
