if you have ever found a record because a radio show played it, some of the machinery for that is his. he has been on bbc radio 1 for decades and is still there, a friday night dance show that ran unbroken through july 2026.

the other half of the job was a and r. he compiled The House Sound Of Chicago in 1986, licensed from dj international, which is how a lot of britain first heard chicago house. the same year he founded FFRR at london records. orbital started there. goldie's Timeless came out through it, and so did dj shadow's Endtroducing.

he was made an MBE in the 2014 new year honours. the citation in the london gazette reads, in full, for services to broadcasting and music.

since 2015 he has also run the orchestral side, ibiza classics with jules buckley conducting, which started as a radio 1 ibiza prom and has grown into arena tours. in may 2025 he started a label, Places & Spaces, which he described as a personal project reflecting the sounds closest to his heart.

Really looking forward to bringing some Ibiza vibes to All Points East this Sunday. It's a great chance to play these tracks in the heart of London and bring a selection of some of my favourite tunes to a festival crowd.

his 7 august date at haydock park is an ibiza classics show with the orchestra rather than a dj set, part of a summer run through castles and country houses. creamfields on saturday 29 august is the dj. the winter arena tour lands in december, finishing with two nights at the o2.
