kevin mckay found house music at glasgow's sub club while studying engineering at glasgow university, and paid for the habit by writing for muzik and jockey slut. in 1997 he started Glasgow Underground.

I started Glasgow Underground in 1997 but it was only once I started working with Romanthony in '98 that the label started to connect with a much bigger audience.

the label stopped in 2004 and he has been blunt about why, telling beatportal that he had pitched it at too narrow a deep house audience and that by the early 2000s british clubbers had started calling that sound dad house. the gap years went into other work, including production on mylo's album Destroy Rock & Roll and the heartbeats label he set up in 2007 to release grum. glasgow underground came back in 2011.

the second run is the bigger one. the label passed five hundred releases in 2020, a mark he hit alongside his own album Summer of Love, and across 2026 it has been shipping records most weeks. his own biggest by a distance is Gimme Gimme with lee-cabrera featuring bleech, out on the label on 17 january 2020. the disco and pop reworks keep coming, among them Harder, Better, Faster, Stronger on 8 may 2026, built on edwin birdsong's 1979 record Cola Bottle Baby, and Lay All Your Love On Me on 19 june 2026.

he also has a record with David Penn. Hallelujah, with vocals from t'shan williams, went out on glasgow underground on 13 march 2020.

his own london night, superfeel, ran at bar a bar in stoke newington on 31 january 2026 with mckay playing all night long, warm up to close. as of 2 august 2026 no upcoming bookings are published for him on resident advisor, bandsintown or skiddle, so the thing to watch is the label's weekly release schedule rather than a tour routing.
