Sheldon Young grew up between compton and lynwood in south los angeles, raised by his great-grandparents and spending most days at church, where he played drums for the choir. he left home to study music at oral roberts university in tulsa, then came back to la and started making beats for the likes of duckwrth, wale and kehlani.

the solo thing landed in 2017 with Controller, a low, deadpan baritone riding a west coast house groove. by 2018 pete tong was spinning it on bbc radio 1 and triple j had it on the a-list. the self-titled ep came that year on Godmode, followed by the Black Moses ep in 2019 with jpegmafia along for the ride.

from there the collab list got long. disclosure on "Lavender," robyn and sg lewis on "Impact," tyler, the creator on "Fuego." his debut full-length Head Rush arrived in june 2024 on rca, "Candy Paint" with thundercat and all.

But now, I'm healthy. I stopped smoking weed like a year ago, so my face got brighter.
