bákayan was born and raised in a small town in bavaria, in a home his parents built after leaving istanbul. turkish folk music and german life sat next to each other in that house, and he has told mixmag turkey how much of that first music is still in what he writes. in 2018 he moved to berlin.

he is a producer, a dj and a live vocalist, and the third one is what makes the set his. he sings over his own tracks instead of only mixing them. underneath the voice is organic house, hand percussion, long melodic builds and a lot of air.

I see music as a way to process and communicate experiences that can't always be put into words.

the record that opened the door is Ala Bora, out on sounds of khemit on 4 february 2022 and given a remix package on 25 august 2023. what followed went out through the labels that matter for this sound. Breathe and Fireflies on stil vor talent on 12 january 2024, the Rebelz ep on the gardens of babylon on 28 march 2025, Ten Minutes on get physical music on 16 may 2025, Don't Act Like on nervous records on 11 july 2025.

he also runs ALA BØRA, which is a record label and an event series at the same time. it carries the turkish word for capsizing, the same word that named the track. Voices came out on it on 20 june 2025 and Let Us Change followed on 17 april 2026, and the same name goes on the parties he puts on at home in berlin.

no upcoming dates are published. his resident advisor page holds five 2026 bookings and every one of them has already happened, the last an ALA BØRA daytime party at crack bellmer in berlin on 18 july 2026.
